awake 12/8/2004 p 28
by gerry injust doing research and came across this.. i know this is old however.
here we have a worldly organisation distributing pamphlets and warning parents about child abuse.. last point in particular.
3) inform the child that what happened is against the law and that it is necessary to report it to the police so that it will not happen again.. pretty straight forward if you ask me.. watchtower were happy to use that in their magazine.

They- the WT- does occasionally have "campaigns"... to "reach out" and "help people come back into the truth" to satisfy their conscience that they have "done all they can" and "now you know how nice and loving they are.'
I would not be outspoken to them... just blah, blah, blah them along. and disappear. Give them nothing... yes, it can be used against you to get you DF'd, disassociated, and then separated from your fam', maybe -as JWdaughter said- to keep you out of the will.... as NOWadays, "you can give everything to the Society when you die, and their lawyers will help you write your will for free!
Take care, be careful!

devil question
by Carol1111 ini had a discussion with 4 jws today and they told me that jesus could not be tempted, ( they say that he would not be perfect if he could) but also they told me that satan tempted jesus in the wilderness.. can anyone clarify their beliefs please.
i like to give them a reasoned argument when i talk to them, but have never noticed this conflict of ideas before..

Divergent: 2 Corinthians 10:13 — God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.
I was constantly "conundrummed" by the teachings of the WT.
Looking back, looking at articles previously written, you see both views presented as possible at the same time. Brain surge!!!
Another example from a WT study, condensed & simplified:
"Ann doesn't talk to her mom because Ann's mom is disfellowshipped, Ann is sweet, Ann is loyal"
10 paragraphs later:
"John, in Japan, became a JW, his parents are mean, they won't talk to him, he persevered, now they DO talk to him, he was loyal"
These are not the exact words, but basically, it boils down to that, and the WT writes two conflicting views like that alllllll the time.

UK Charity Commission - Latest
by Slidin Fast inthis is a copy of the round robin email sent out today.
i am confident that there is no problem with passing it on.
the wheels grind on, it is good to know that not much gets by these investigators.. dear all, i apologise for not being in contact over the last couple of months, but due to ongoing legal matters our inquiries into watch tower bible and tract society of britain and manchester new moston kingdom hall have been moving at a slower pace than we would have liked.

Thx, Slidin' Fast! It is great to know the whole picture, and that there are at least some people that can see thru the curtain/veil the WT holds in front of so many people's eyes! And they just may have the power to do something about it!
Awesome! Cha Ching!

Special Talk During the Meeting Today About the Bad Press in Canada
by RobertT18 ini was invited to a congregation in ontario, canada today and as soon as the meeting opened the brother conducting the meeting said there was a very important statement coming from the borg.
this talk replaced the two last parts of "living as a christian" section.
he started reading a letter from the borg about how much they loved us.

Listener: "They can't appropriately call it persecution because it's not."
Splash: 'It's not persecution when they've done something wrong, it's accountability.
That's like saying all criminals are being persecuted by the police."
These concise, short summaries would be a great idea to memorize.
Persecution vs. Accountability.

Learning from History
by no-zombie ini was reading the book 'five stages of collapse' by dmitry orlov, which discussed in part, people's attitudes toward the probability of societal collapse.
one group of people, those who dispassionately examine facts, like scientists, engineers and accountants ultimately become diametrically opposed to the group of people with vested emotional interests, like politicians, businessmen and economists.
and he made some interesting comments that parallel our situation when we consider how people are polarized over the future of the organization..

Very true, ScratchMe, real estate business it is.... It has money, it can just keep buying/ selling as a real estate business.... but will it still be a 'religion'?
I hope not, I WISH not, I praaaaaaaaaaaaay not (even tho I don't pray), but just thinking about the way people are, I think SOME JW's will still keep 'believing' in what the WT has put out over the years, just like there is still a 'Bible Students' organization, even tho the religion got morphed into "JW's".
My cousin, who is DF'd, not living the life of a JW, not gone to a meeting in years, not planning to, has an family members who are JWs, and when he found out I was no longer "going" he said "Oh, that's too bad."
That being said, I will just have to wait and see.

Have the Elders ever been instructed by their bethel to call the police for abuse?
by StephaneLaliberte inright now, there are a lot of talks on this topic in quebec and, at the mid week meeting, they are reading the letter sent in 2002 where it states that the elders will call the authorities if the law forces them to.
the strange thing is, it looks like even when there are laws to that effect, jws seem to believe that it does not apply to them.
for instance, i know that they do not report anything in quebec, even if it is the law!

So true, Flipper, when you simplify it:
Elders are always told they have to call the Society.
Victims are never told they have to call the police.
Their values are transparent.

JW Ideal candidates for Life Insurance?
by MNLifeAgent ini am not a jehovah's witness, although i do respect your religion entirely.
i am 27 years old, and live in minnesota.
i have an older cousin, who's mother (not with my uncle -separated when my cousin was a baby) had been a witness, grew up in your word, and about 12 years ago she fully converted.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, I haven't read this whole thread, but if witnesses started buying $1,000,000 rider policies for the WT, Bethel would start training sharpshooters!

The WT's agent, Arthur Ash told the court that it would take years to sift through all the files, but they sure "redacted them" as in 'lickety splity'!
How does that work?
